Former first lady Laura Bush is enjoying the final throes of summer with her daughters and granddaughters in tow.
“I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time,” Laura’s daughter Jenna Bush Hager wrote via Instagram on Sunday, August 23, quoting Taylor Swift’s “August” lyrics and sharing a sweet multigenerational portrait from a recent family getaway.
In the pic, Laura, 79, sported a casual blue button-down and khaki trousers as she stood next to Jenna, 44, and her daughters, Poppy, 13, and Mila, 10. (In addition to her daughters, Jenna and husband Henry Hager share son Hal, 6.)
The crew were joined by Jenna’s twin sister, Barbara Bush, and her 4-year-old daughter, Cora. (Barbara, 44, and husband Craig Coyne later welcomed son Edward in 2024.)

Laura’s husband, George W. Bush, served as the United States president from 2001 to 2009. Jenna and Barbara were teenagers during their dad’s two-term tenure in the White House.
“I would say it was sort of, like, the laissez-faire parenting of the ‘80s and ‘90s,” Barbara exclusively told Us in March 2025 of the twin sisters’ pre-White House childhood. “Our parents were very around, but we had a lot of freedom in terms of playing outside and exploring our neighborhood and just kind of being out and about in a, obviously, safe way. It was before cell phones and before the constant connection and communication that we all have now.”
After George left the Oval Office, he watched his daughters find love and eventually become parents themselves.
While speaking with Us last year, Barbara revealed that she wanted to “emulate” her parents’ lessons with her own kids “as much as we can.”

“The world is quite different now,” she said. “I aspire to be that type of parent in this world.”
As for Jenna, she told Us that the siblings’ parenting styles were “pretty similar” to George, 80, and Laura’s experience.
“They tried to make the world creative and magical for us. And when you’re really little, the world is magical,” the Today cohost recalled of the president and first lady. “So, it’s both parents being part of their kids’ lives, but it’s also parents getting kid energy, putting down their phones and seeing what they see because it’s hilarious and it’s fun.”
Jenna continued at the time, “Yes, parents can show the kids the magic of the world, but also, and probably more importantly, parents can see through their kids’ eyes some of the magic. And that’s in a world that feels like it can be sometimes dark and difficult and hard, it’s so much fun just to choose that type of fun that comes through seeing the world through your kids’ eyes.”
