New LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. met with reporters on Friday as the Tigers continue with fall camp.
Among other topics, Weis was asked about his decision to follow Lane Kiffin from Ole Miss to LSU after the 2026 season concluded. Weis, along with several other assistant coaches, continued to coach the Rebels through their CFP run, but ultimately made the jump to Baton Rouge with Kiffn this offseason.
Weis told reporters that his loyalty to Kiffin was a primary driver in his choice to leave for LSU.
“No. 1, coach Kiffin. He believed in me at an early age,” Weis said. “I owe him a lot for my career.”
Weis and Kiffin have worked together at various levels for more than a decade. Weis was an offensive analyst at Alabama from 2015-16 when Kiffin was the Tide’s offensive coordinator. Kiffin later hired Weis to be FAU’s offensive coordinator and QB coach and the pair also worked together for 4 seasons at Ole Miss.

Weis also gave a nod to LSU and Baton Rouge, calling it a “dream place to be.”
