During an appearance on TODAY With Jenna & Sheinelle on Thursday (Aug. 20), Bunnie opened about about life following her divorce from country sensation Jelly Roll, and she made it abundantly clear that she is having lots of fun so far.
“Ladies, they never should have let me back out in the streets because I love it here,” she joked. “I love it here, and I’m never going back.”
Bunnie and Jelly Roll finalized their divorce in July after roughly a decade of marriage. Instead of dwelling on the end of their relationship, the Dumb Blonde podcaster said she has found herself happier and more confident on the other side of it. Cohosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones even acknowledged the playful name Bunnie has given this new period of her life: “Baddie Bunnie Summer.” The 46-year-old was more than happy to explain what that meant, and reminisced briefly on the split.
“It was beautifully tragic,” she said of the breakup. “I got my smile back and my smile’s to my ears. I’m having the frickin’ time of my life, and I’m just thriving.”
Bunnie added that she never expected the divorce to be a good thing.
“I never thought that it would turn out to be such a blessing, but it’s such a blessing, and I’m so thankful,” she said.
Moreover, her newfound single status has not gone unnoticed. Bunnie shared that her DMs have been flooded with potential suitors.
“It is a frickin’ smorgasbord. It’s a boy buffet,” she quipped. “I have a lot of women in my DMs too.”
Beneath the jokes, though, the entrepreneur said her experience has also taught her an important lesson about putting herself first.
“I hope that my journey can show women … I feel like us women, we put ourselves aside for partners, friends, kids,” she explained. “It’s like we don’t pour into ourselves and sometimes, you need to be selfish and you need to pour into yourself.”
For Bunnie, the silver lining has been realizing that even after a difficult time, there can still be something exciting waiting on the other side.
“You’re gonna get through that,” she said. “You’re gonna rise up and you’re gonna be an even better version of yourself.”
And Bunnie’s next chapter may include motherhood. When asked whether she still wants to have a child, as she previously discussed on her podcast Dumb Blonde, she confirmed that she does.
“So I definitely still want to have a baby and that’s gonna be one of the newest chapters in my next book,” she said on TODAY, after previously revealing that she and Jelly were still trying to have a child together. “I can’t wait for you guys to read about it because it’s been one hell of a journey.”
