Today’s Fortnite update has launched and everyone is here! Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and many more have joined the Fortnite universe.
With so many iconic gaming characters joining the franchise in a Super Smash Bros level collab, this is the biggest update Fortnite has seen in a while.
So, without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about the latest Fortnite Override update.
Fortnite update today (20 August): What changes in the Override patch notes?
First of all, like with any season, eight new skins are coming to the game. Players will be able to choose from Sonic, Geno, Mali and many other gaming-inspired icons.
The new season is also bringing in a whole new line-up of weapons inspired by Epic Games' collaborations.
Weapons include the Sonic Power Sneakers that allow players to perform a spin dash or spin attack, the Mega Buster which is a Mega Man-style arm cannon that fires different projectiles, and the 8-Bit Shotgun deigned like a retro 8-bit console, alongside many more.
For later on in the season it’s been confirmed we can expect to see the Kingdom Key from Kingdom Hearts, Rebecca’s Guns from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and more.
Items including the 1-Up Token, which allows players to respawn with their full inventory, as well as the Tetris Rift which heals players, are also making their debut.
In terms of gameplay, the season is introducing a new Admin Panel in players’ Battle Royale Lobby so they can hack their games. This will give players Sprite Dust, which can be used to hack loot in matches and customise drops.
In every match, Override Consoles will also appear and allow you to rewrite the match rules – but only if you get there first! Overrides include speed buffs, more XP, loot hacks and many more.
The update is also introducing a new generation of sprites, which will be immortalised in the new Sprite Garden (almost like the Chao Garden from Sonic).

And speaking of sprites, Golden Sprite variants are being hacked into the game for a limited time on Saturday 22 August, so keep an eye out!
The new patch is also bringing a series of quality-of-life improvements, including differences to the map’s fog. The fog will now lift in smaller pieces in order for the map to better reflect exactly where you’ve explored.
Finally, as the season progresses, new items and outfits will arrive in the Shop, including items inspired by Kingdom Hearts, Pac-Man, Mega Man, Persona 5 Royal, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon.
