Hayden Panettiere shared message to daughter in one of her final interviews before death

In one of her final interviews before her unexpected passing, Hayden Panettiere shared what would become some of her last words for her daughter and a haunting message to her younger self.

Panettiere, who died over the weekend just days before her 37th birthday, had spent the last several months sharing a story about motherhood she’d quietly lived and few had known about – her struggles with postpartum depression, her decision to give up custody of her daughter, her journey with addictions, a sudden loss that changed her forever and how she battled it all.

She had been open about her struggles with alcohol addiction and depression, including after the birth of her daughter with Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko in 2014, but after her memoir came out in May, the conversations became clearer.

“I had this great life, and was blessed in so many ways, but I felt empty,” she told parenting magazine Momé in their July issue.

In detailing her unexpected entry into motherhood, Panettiere told the publication her labor took a frightening near-death turn and the emptiness she felt after left her struggling to cope.

“I had always heard that moms feel an instant rush of love, but I didn’t — and I had no idea why,” she said.

partum depression had her turning to alcohol, then seeking treatment to help her get sober, but her treatment missed the root cause of her dependency.

It was in the midst of that struggle that Panettiere said she made one of the hardest decisions she had to make as a mother and gave full-time custody of her daughter to Klitschko.

“It wasn’t a decision I made lightly, nor was it a decision I even wanted to make,” she says. “I was going through a really challenging time in my life… I knew I needed to be able to put her first so that I could get the help I needed and be the mom she needed me to be.”

In an interview with podcaster Jay Shetty after her memoir came out, Panettiere talked about the custody arrangement for her 11-year-old daughter, who now lives full-time with Klitschko in Ukraine.

“I think there’s been this very common misconception that I just gave up my child,” she said. “That could not be farther from the truth.”

In speaking to Momé, Panettiere shared a special message about her daughter.

“I love my daughter, and I’m so proud of the young woman she is becoming. I talk to her all the time, and I feel so connected to her,” she said.

Then, in a haunting message to her younger self, the late actor shared the following words:

“You’re stronger than you know. And you’re going to be just fine.”

“I think ‘Heroes’ is really hot because it’s just a really great combination of everything that people love — they love reality, they love sci-fi and things like X-Men where they get to dream of something bigger,” Panettiere told The Associated Press in 2008. “And at the core of it are these human stories that people can relate to, very rugged. And it’s just grabbed everyone in every age group.”

Panettiere had 11 songs recorded for “Nashville” appear on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs charts during the show’s run, including two featuring Britton.

Panettiere’s younger brother, Jansen, who was also an actor, died of a heart condition in 2023, at age 28.
