Pennywise is officially on his way back, as It: Welcome to Derry has been renewed for season 2 at HBO.
The second season, based on Stephen King's iconic novel and once again executive produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, will follow the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror. It's set to take place in 1935, 27 years before season 1.
Andy and Barbara Muschietti said of the renewal: "Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege. The support of our partners at HBO and Warner Bros. Television is priceless. Boy do we love our jobs!"
Sarah Aubrey, head of HBO Max original programming, added: "We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti's horrifically iconic adaptation. Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour."

We look forward to bringing fans back to the town of Derry to experience the next chapter and uncover even more of what lies beneath the surface."
Andy Muschietti previously said that the tone of the series will feel different this time, and will not shy away from the "horrible" social and cultural themes of the 1930s.
He told Variety: "There's gonna be a lot of that depression-era hustling in the air in our characters.
"Everybody’s trying to get by and survive the circumstances. They are gonna do crazy things. And of course, the social, cultural, horrible things that were happening in the era, too. We’re not going to skip those. [They are the] very centre and the heart of our story."
