Veteran catcher Jake Rogers made his debut with the White Sox on Saturday. It’s been a wild three weeks for the backstop. A series of waiver claims and trades led to Rogers suiting up for four teams in 21 days, easily a record (h/t Codify on X). The previous mark was held by Frank Huelsman, who played for four teams in 42 days in 1904.
1. Cameron shuts out Angels
Royals left-hander Noah Cameron had another dominant effort on Sunday, delivering a complete-game shutout against the Angels. He struck out nine and allowed just one hit. Cameron punched out the side in the eighth. He struck out Mike Trout to end the game. Before his last outing, Cameron put together a ridiculous three-start stretch permitting just six hits and one earned run over 23 innings. He stumbled against the Dodgers, but bounced back in a big way yesterday.
2. McClanahan back on Monday
The Rays are expected to activate lefty Shane McClanahan to start on Monday against the Orioles (h/t Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times). McClanahan hit the IL at the end of July with back tightness. He cruised through three innings in his lone rehab start, tossing 30 pitches with Triple-A Durham. McClanahan will rejoin a Tampa Bay squad looking to salvage a game against the red-hot Orioles. The Rays had won nine straight before dropping the first three games in this series. The club has leaned on long relievers Joe Boyle, Jesse Scholtens, and Steven Matz heavily over the weekend. Tampa Bay could certainly use some length from McClanahan, though he might not go much longer than five innings in his first start back.
3. Munoz reaches milestone in series win
Mariners closer Andres Munoz had one of his worst outings of the season on Friday, allowing five runs (four earned) in the bottom of the 10th inning. The walk-off loss dropped Seattle to 57-66. The Mariners won on Saturday, then secured a series win last night. Munoz closed out the 3-2 victory with an uneventful ninth inning. The bounceback effort marked his 100th career save. He’s fourth on the Mariners’ all-time list and has a decent shot at catching Kazuhiro Sasaki (129 saves) by next season. Seattle is now 2 1/2 games back of the final AL Wild Card spot.
