Neutral Athletes B demolished the Championship record in the mixed 4×100 freestyle relay tonight, clocking 3:19.95 to slice 2.12 seconds off the 3:22.07 that Great Britain put up five years ago.
They had a big leadoff leg from individual silver medalist Egor Kornev, who touched in 47.05 to hand over to Ivan Girev with a lead of half a second. Girev then split 47.67 on the second leg, keeping them in the lead at the halfway point.
Daria Klepikova then split a sizzling 52.21 nearly eight tenths of a second under her flat start best of 52.98, but had her gap to the field closed to just three tenths of a second as Sara Curtis clocked 51.79 for the 26th-fastest split in history to nearly pull Italy level.
Kira Manokhina matched her split of 53.08 from the women’s 4×100 relay on the anchor leg here, splitting 53.02 to just about hold off a charging Marrit Steenbergen.
The NAB team were just off the European record of 3:19.68 they swam to win silver in Singapore last summer. Manokhina was the only new swimmer this year, replacing Daria Trofimova on the third leg.

The biggest difference came on the leadoff leg, where Kornev was 1.14 seconds faster than Duncan Scott was.
Marrit Steenbergen threw down the fastest split in history for the second time this week, clocking a monstrous 50.74 to very nearly run down NAB for gold. The Netherlands ended up just 0.14 seconds behind, having been 2.42 seconds down at the start of the final leg.
She owned the previous best-ever split with the 50.87 she swam on the mixed medley relay, which dragged the Netherlands from 6th to 2nd, and with her 51.34 from the women’s 4×100 free she now owns three of the eight fastest splits ever.
Sara Curtis‘ split of 51.79 was nearly a second faster than her flat start best of 52.69, and half a second faster than her 52.29 from the women’s 4×100 free relay two days ago. That ranks as the 26th-fastest split all-time, despite being a second behind Steenbergen’s, and makes Curtis the 11th-fastest performer in history.
Czechia set another national record as they finished 5th, getting a superb second half of the race from Barbara Janickova (53.06) and 200 free champion Barbara Seemanova (52.55). Miroslav Knedla, who won the 50 back in a new Czech record of 24.11 earlier this evening, clocked a 48.21 split swimming second.
