The India National Cricket Team will be up against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team for a two-match Test series. The first game is scheduled to start on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium, Galle. While speaking at the pre-match press conference, Morne Morkel shared an update on the pitch, as the team India bowling coach believes that the pitch is good and spin will be a good option from the very start of the game from one side, and from the other side, one pacer can bowl. Morne Morkel said (as quoted by Times of India), "Looks a good surface, can use spin as an attacking option with pace from the other end. It’s all about mindset and as the match will go on, there will be up and down; uneven bounce."
"The ball will go soft after 20-25 overs. Need to be smart - use the crease, short ball and execute the plans. Surface looks good to the eye and first innings could belong to the batters. Bat big."
Morne Morkel hints at Kuldeep Yadav as India's first-choice spinner
Apart from speaking on the combination, he provided a hint on the spinning options that will be playing in the first game. India has brought four spinners with three all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain, and one frontline spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. Among them, Jadeja was the most impressive and used all his experience of playing in Sri Lanka during the warm-up game.
Morne Morkel further added that Kuldeep Yadav is an attacking spinner and Ravindra Jadeja is more experienced and has the class; all three left-arm spinners are different with the skill set they have. It will be on skipper Shubman Gill on how he will use the spinners and whom he will field.
Morkel said, "Kuldeep is an attacking spinner, Jadeja has class and experience. Our three left arm spinners are different. They have the skill. Depends on how Shubman uses them."
Who will India play among spinners?
Among the spinners, Jadeja, Kuldeep and Suthar picked two wickets each during the warm-up game. Jaddu picked 2/64 in 15 overs, Kuldeep Yadav picked 2/76 in 18 overs, and Manav Suthar also picked 2/33 in 13 overs.
Saransh Jain failed to pick a single wicket in the warm-up match but bowled well. However, it will be interesting to see if the off-spinner gets a chance ahead of Kuldeep Yadav in the squad. India will look to dominate from the very start and win the Test series.
