Jamie Lynn Spears, who starred as initial controversial figure Noreen Fitzgibbons, wrote in an Instagram post how her personal life has grown since the show first started, noting in part: “Maddie was in middle school, & Ivey was a little baby, still breastfeeding when the producers were just crazy enough to give this insecure but hopeful young mama a chance, and little did they know they were actually giving a part of myself “life” again, a part of myself I desperately needed and it healed me in ways that allowed me to grow as an actress, but most importantly as a person and a mother.”
Dion Johnstone, who starred as the gentle love interest to Heather Headley’s Helen, wrote: “That was the whole job. Bringing some joy and some tears into your homes. To have served you in that way has been a privilege I do not take lightly.”
According to reports, the cancellation came after Netflix had to choose between renewing Sweet Magnolias for a sixth season or picking up a new show called Ladies of the House. The latter was chosen.
