Among the most ticketed spots in San Diego remains La Jolla Shores Drive. Since the beginning of the year through August 1, San Diego parking enforcement officers issued 522 parking tickets to drivers who failed to curb their wheels. That is second only to Golfcrest Drive, at the base of Cowles Mountain. Since 2022, La Jolla Shores Drive has ranked among the city’s top locations for wheel-curbing citations. Parking enforcement officers issued 494 citations there in 2022, the most of any street in San Diego.Citations climbed steadily after 2022, rising from 533 in 2023 to 719 in 2024 before leveling off at 722 in 2025.
Times of San Diego contacted the San Diego Police Department to ask why wheel-cramping citations have risen in the past five years. San Diego Police Lt. Cesar Jimenez says it has more to do with staffing than anything else, and in no way is it a response to the city’s tenuous finances.
“While we cannot know the exact cause of an increase in citations, we can say there was an increase in the number of parking enforcement officers in recent years. In 2024, there were 55 parking enforcement officers; currently, we have 74,” Lt. Jimenez wrote in an email to Times of San Diego.
“San Diego Police Department officers and parking enforcement officers have not been directed to increase enforcement to increase revenue nor to hit any type of enforcement quotas, which are illegal,” added Jimenez.
