The community’s third annual car show on Saturday, Aug. 15, promises to be bigger, better and more car-centric than ever.The free Pacific Beach Retro Fun Fair & Car Show will be kicking into overdrive on four blocks of Garnet Avenue from Mission to Dawes, including alleyways from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Co-hosted by Pacific Beach Town Council, the car show is being promoted as an “exciting blast to the past.”Pacific Beach Town Council president Charlie Nieto, a classic car buff who owns a 1974 Buick Apollo, spoke of how the event got started in 2023.“I wanted us to take on the car show, which had been done sporadically, not annually, over the years,” he said, noting the reconstituted show is unique, being the only time Garnet is ever partially closed off.“We wanted to turn the avenue into a promenade with unique classic cars that people wanted to see.” Nieto added, “Not everyone in PB gets to see cars like this unless they go to this event. This is one major way our community can highlight and support unique aspects of San Diego culture and demonstrate what our neighborhood and businesses have for everyone to enjoy.”Nieto noted this year’s show will be gearing up with 200 or more classic and eclectic vehicles, including Woodies, trendy VW Bug family cars, and much more.

Lordigyan’s nickname does not refer to the NFL team, but rather to his ownership of a 1969 Dodge Charger, a legendary American muscle car.The Retro Fun Fair & Car Show is more than just an assortment of vehicles. It will feature several attractions, including music. There will also be more than 100 local hot rods and cruisers present.Regarding entertainment at this year’s car show, Nieto said there will be live performances other than music.“Some cars will be doing tricks, and we will have a magician performing,” he said. “The San Diego Police Department will be bringing in its ‘Lowrider Guardian.’ It’s a cool site to see as it only gets rolled out to a couple of special events each year.”San Diego Police Department’s Guardian is a custom lowrider police cruiser designed as a community outreach and goodwill vehicle, first commissioned in 2013 as part of a community relations project. The Guardian is not used for regular patrol, but serves as a promotional and symbolic tool to connect with the public, especially the Southeast San Diego lowrider community. It was created to humanize law enforcement, show solidarity, and foster positive relationships.“Our main focus continues to be successfully promoting this beloved event, keeping it rolling.
