Swimming Australia has not yet announced the host city for its 2028 Olympic Trials, but the bookends to the Olympic year will lean heavily on Brisbane as a host.

That’s after Swimming Australia named the Brisbane Aquatic Centre as the host venue for the Australian Age, Mult-Class Age, and Australian Open Championships in 2027 and 2029.

    2027 Calendar

April 12-14: Australian Open April 16-23: Australian Age Championships April 23-25: Australian Multi-Class Age Championships Trials dates and locations have not yet been announced, but they will be “later in May” according to the release. July 10-18: Swimming at the World Aquatics Championships

2029 dates have not yet been announced.

In addition to its indoor, 10-lane 50 meter indoor competition pool, the Brisbane Aquatic Centre includes an outdoor 13-lane, 50m warm-up pool, an indoor 25m learn-to-swim pool, and an indoor, 25m diving well.

The main competition pool seats around 4,300 spectators.

Swimming Australia CEO Rob Woodhouse said the venue was well equipped to deliver a national event of this significance.

“The Brisbane Aquatic Centre gives us the space we need to execute this event to the standard expected of a national championship, and we are thankful to the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland, and the Brisbane Economic Development Agency for their support,” Woodhouse said.

“This is not only our biggest event of the year, but also one of our most important on the path to Brisbane 2032 for our age group swimmers. This year we saw 18 Australian Age records broken and athletes such as Sienna Toohey and Henry Allan emerge on the international stage. We look forward to seeing the next generation of future stars continue to shine.”

A press release cites an anticipated 3,000 competitors from more than 200 clubs delivering “more than (AUD) $15 million (USD $10.5 million) of economic benefits and 70,000 visitor nights to Brisbane.”

The meets will serve as a leadup to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games which will also be held in Brisbane. A new National Aquatic Centre is planned for those Olympics that will seat 25,000 with temporary bleachers, reduced to 8,000 permanent seats after the Games.
