The spokesperson for the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), Mohamed Ibrahim, revealed that the authority received over 3,000 complaints in the past two days, in addition to more than 100,000 inquiries through its call center, regarding mobile phone lines registered in the names of people despite not being in their possession.
During an interview with the ‘Extra News Channel’ on Sunday, Ibrahim explained that the authority addresses complaints where a problem is proven in the registration or transfer of ownership of mobile lines, adding that these are subject to examination and verification.
Citizens can contact the NTRA through the call center or the communication channels it has announced.
Ibrahim added that the authority reviews the documents held by the service provider to verify the details of each individual case.
Penalties
Ibrahim stated, “If there is any wrongdoing within the company, it will be held accountable.”
He clarified that penalties are not limited to cases of line registration or ownership transfer.
The regulatory body imposes penalties on telecommunications companies in various matters when problems or violations of regulations arise, explaining that these penalties are included in the monthly reports issued by the NTRA.
Ibrahim emphasized that the agency announces the penalties imposed on companies, in addition to restoring citizens’ rights in cases where their claims are proven.
He said, “We announce these penalties for all companies, and if a citizen has a right, it is restored to them. Sometimes we even announce the specific items that are returned to citizens.”
