Jon Culshaw is taking on another adventure this week as he returns to the role of the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who's Big Finish audio adventures.
The actor and impressionist has taken over the role from Peter Capaldi, who played the Twelfth Doctor on screen.
Alongside Gwithian Evans, he stars in The Twelfth Doctor Adventures: Wings of Steel, the fourth episode of the Doctor Who: Run Fast, Be Kind miniseries.
The new story, written by Alfie Hewitt, is set high above the world of Doorahla and follows the fascist Ultima, who are unleashing vicious force upon their enemies and performing depraved experiments on their captives - until the Doctor arrives, that is.
Alongside Culshaw and Evans, Wings of Steel also stars Ellen O’Grady as Ulnar, Nigel Betts as Paxor, Nicholas Shaw as Mundar, and Holly-Marie Michael as 409.
The actor said of the new story: "This is a terrific script. Once again, it’s a story that reflects the real world. It casts your mind to regimes and periods of history which are absolutely insane, and individuals who get wrapped up in egotism on a grand, nation-crushing scale, and the short – sightedness that can rot into the most appalling, ridiculous decisions.
"The villains here symbolise a great deal of that. And it’s a great place for the Doctor to place his sense of morality – it allows all of those wonderful speeches to be unleashed from him.”
Writer and producer Alfie Shaw added: “Wings of Steel is actually the middle part of a trilogy as it continues on from The Beautiful and the Damned with no time jump for the TARDIS team.
"This episode is really about the mundanity of evil. Horrific crimes perpetrated by people who view their actions as mundane – the equivalent of filling a spreadsheet. Obviously, the Doctor and Ash have something to say about all that..."
