There are only three events on the docket tonight, but there are some heavy hitters among them, and we could be in for an exciting night.
The meet will open with the 400 freestyle. Madi Mintenko (4:08.10) was the top seed on the women’s side and she leads Brinkleigh Hansen (4:08.36) and Kate Hurst (4:08.84), who were the only other swimmers under 4:10 in prelims.
The men’s 400 freestyle could be one of the most exciting races of the night. Luka Mijatovic, who has been racing in the 18 & Under final, has opted to swim in the Open final tonight. He was the fastest swimmer in prelims, touching in 3:47.55 to finish just four tenths ahead of Ryan Erisman‘s 3:47.94. Erisman has been electric this week, and we could see something crazy from either one of them.
Not to be ignored are William Mulgrew and Aiden Hammer, who are also excellent in the event and could easily take over the top spot.
The women’s 100 breaststroke will feature reigning national champion Kate Douglass as the top seed after she swam 1:06.25 in prelims. She sits about eight tenths ahead of Virginia teammate Emma Weber‘s 1:07.05 in 2nd.
The men’s 100 breaststroke sees Alexei Avakov as the top seed in 59.29 for Indiana Swim Club. He led the trio of sub-1:00 swimmers in prelims that included Gabe Nunziata (59.67) and Luke Barr (59.88). Men’s 50 breaststroke champion Watson Nguyen was scratched into the ‘A’ final, and he could be a threat from lane eight.
In the women’s 100 backstroke, Isabelle Stadden is the clear favorite to pick up her 3rd national title of the week after she set the top time of 58.03 in prelims, more than a second ahead of Claire Curzan‘s 59.15.
Finally, the meet will wrap up with the men’s 100 backstroke final, where Owen McDonald is the top seed in 53.48, just ahead of Jack Wilkening (53.66), and Ulises Saravia (TNAQ) — 53.73.
