Six of Emmerdale’s key female characters are heading for trouble as the ITV soap launches a special season that is set to change the Dales as we know it.
Emmerdale: Women of Power and Peril is being set up for the rest of the summer, with Gabby, Charity, Dawn, Sarah, Serena and Sadie all taking centre stage across a string of storylines that will test every aspect of their lives.
Emmerdale’s producer Laura Shaw said of the upcoming plans: "From explosive secrets that shatter lives to dangerous new allegiances that threaten to tear the village apart, this season promises to be one of our most intense yet.
"The village is set for a dramatic transformation, and we can’t wait for our audience to see the peril these characters face."
In the case of Gabby (Rosie Bentham) her eating disorder storyline is set to play out, with her orthorexia about to spiral out of control as she obsesses over the food she eats.
Speaking previously about the story, Rosie shared: "I think the future is more bleak than bright with this behaviour.
"While she has found stability in her business, the dark tunnel she is going down is extreme.
"She is making food the 'villain' - for example, not wanting Thomas at a party because of the menu. It is consuming her whole brain."
But when a terrible incident occurs, she’s left with a moral decision to make which could destroy the life of those she cares about.
To make matters worse, Dawn (Olivia Bromley) is getting ready to marry husband-to-be Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), though it’s becoming clear she’s still harbouring feelings for her ex - and Gabby’s boyfriend- Billy (Jay Kontzle).
As she finds herself in the middle of a growing feud and feeling forced into the corner, Dawn has a choice to make – her present life, or a new future?
Meanwhile Charity (Emma Atkins) is desperate to protect her family, and finds herself caught in a web of lies that threatens to shatter everything she holds dear.
Ultimately it leads to a confession that rocks the village to its core.
We also have the return of Sadie (Patsy Kensit), who is back on her own personal mission – much to the surprise of residents who didn’t think they’d see her again.
But Sadie arrives with news, and when she spills a massive secret, the village is left reeling with what she’s revealed.
Things aren’t going much better over with the Sugdens, either.
Sarah (Katie Hill) will be pushed to the edge as she struggles to hold it together. The official press release warning: "With the truth of Leyla’s parentage threatening to reveal itself at any time, is her world set to come crashing down around her?"
Then there's Serena (Casey Al-Shaqsy), the newest Sugden addition who finds herself in an increasingly volatile situation as her secrets finally reveal themselves.
It won't be long before she needs to decide how much she is willing to sacrifice in the name of protecting those secrets.
The distant cousin of Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) only appeared on our screens in June, but Serena has already proven to be quite the troublemaker, digging for information on her family, trying to find out more about killer John, and rummaging through Home Farm.
With her exit already confirmed, are her schemes set to head into disaster?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
