Budget airlines get a bad rap. With sardine-seating and ticky-tacky fees, low-cost carriers are digging deep to find new ways to stand out, even after Spirit's demise.
Even Southwest, notoriously known for free bags for decades, became a lot less appealing in 2025 when they changed the once-beloved policy.
One airline that's commonly lost in the mix is Allegiant Air, who recently acquired even lesser-known Sun Country Airlines in an attempt to dominate the budget sector, especially with newcomers Breeze Airways and Avelo Airlines gaining a loyal following of vacationers.
As such, the layover-free airline, never offering connecting flights, is adding a new perk in an effort to shift away from those stringent fees bargain bin airlines are typically known for.

Beginning August 1, 2026, the increasingly popular airline announced all passengers can enjoy in-flight refreshments at no charge.
In their own words, this includes "sodas, juice, and water." That's right — no booze. That is unless you're an Allways Rewards Visa® cardholder.
In that case, you can score an elevated menu selection of coffee, sports drinks, protein shakes, and yes, adult beverages with a value of up to $16 for a one-time order.
But, there's another exciting announcement its signature "Sunseekers" can look forward to as well: Premium Seating that will be called "Allegiant First."
Come spring 2027, at an undisclosed date, those who find budget airlines' kneecap-crushing seats unbearable, even for short routes, can upgrade for more space and amenities, such as bringing personal item, one carry-on bag and one checked bag up to 70 lbs at no additional charge.
The Allegiant First cabin is expected to become available for online booking this August, where travelers can select the option for a "Premium" upgrade for priority check-in and boarding, a 37-inch pitch, along with an adjustable headrest, calf rests, and seats that recline 5 inches.
