An incident that allegedly took place on Monday in the city of Dnepr has drawn particular attention after a video of the altercation was circulated on local social media.
The brief clip shows a white van obscuring part of an apparent confrontation before driving away moments after a single gunshot is heard. Several women and a distraught elderly man are left behind. Two of the women can be seen lying on the ground, while a third cradles one of them.
Local reports alleged that the van belonged to a conscription team that seized a potential recruit. One woman was reportedly shot, while another was struck or run over by the vehicle. The draft officers also allegedly used tear gas to repel those resisting them.
City police said Tuesday that they were investigating the footage but declined to confirm that conscription officials were involved.
