Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America, named Katie Ledecky as one of the women on his list of the Mount Rushmore of women’s sports in a recent social media video with jcubedhax on Instagram.
Mount Rushmore features four significant U.S. Presidents and is located in South Dakota. Obama’s picks for his four women on a version of Mount Rushmore of women’s sports included Serena Williams (tennis), Simone Biles (gymnastics), Katie Ledecky (swimming), and Cheryl Miller (basketball).
Ledecky 14 Olympic medals, including nine gold medals, making her the most decorated U.S. Female Olympian in history. She also has swam to 30 World Championship medals, including 24 gold. Her 18th gold medal in 2022 made her the winningest female swimmer in the history of the World Aquatics Championships.
Ledecky made her Olympic debut at the 2012 London Olympics at just 15 years old and won the 800 freestyle. She returned to the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning four gold medals, and won two gold medals at the 2020(1) Tokyo Olympics. She most recently won gold in the 800 and 1500 freestyles at the 2024 Paris Olympics and has her sights set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The 29 year old will represent the U.S. at the 2026 Pan Pac Championships next month in Irvine, California. She has won eight gold medals, and 10 total medals, between the 2014 and 2018 Pan Pac Championships already.
