Love Island USA Winners Open Up About Life Outside the Villa

This year’s season of Love Island USA brought the drama, the romance and the smokin’ hot challenges. And whether you were rooting for Bryce and Trinity, Carl and Aniya, Zach and Kayda, or Melanie and Sincere, I think we can all agree that this year’s batch of couples were entertaining and compatible. Since the finale, season 8 winners Bryce Alakai and Trinity Tatum have been spotted out and about on dates, and recently the couple had an exclusive interview with PEOPLE about the realities of living in the villa and what life looks like in the real world.

Trinity compares being in the villa to the military, stating, “It felt like we were at basic training; sleeping with everybody, waking up at a certain time,” she told PEOPLE. Bryce also shares his experience on the communal sleeping in the villa. “At one point there were 19 people in there. People were sleeping on couches. Carl [Schmidt’s] big ass was laid on the couch. It’s like we were in a barracks or something,” he said.

The couple also chatted about cooking for each other in the villa, and instead of making the go-to avocado toast and fruit meal that most islanders indulge in, they went for something different. “He makes the best bacon, egg and cheese. But he cooks bacon with butter — trying to give me high cholesterol. But I’m not going to lie, his cooking is really good. I was scared, but it’s good. He would always bring me my food early. I never was last,” Tatum told PEOPLE.

After getting out of the villa, the two also reflected on the feeling of winning, with both of them thinking that they weren’t going to win. “I didn’t expect us to win, genuinely. I thought we were going to be second place and that it would be Aniya and Carl. I was like, ‘Expect disappointment so you don’t get disappointed.’ And then Ariana said our name and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’”

So, what’s next for the gorgeous couple and season 8 winners? Of course we’ll get a dose of their relationship during the Love Island USA Season 8 reunion, which premieres on Peacock on August 31 at 9 P.M. ET. The two also talk about long-distance and Tatum possibly moving to Los Angeles to be closer to Alakai. “It’s a very high chance. I don’t want to do long distance. Honestly, I really just want to be where he is,” she told PEOPLE.
