Kentucky basketball head coach Mark Pope announced on Friday that rising junior forward Kam Williams recently had a second operation on his left foot, which he broke in January.
Williams was able to finish the season for Kentucky, returning in March to play a reserve role for the Wildcats in the NCAA Tournament. Since them, as Pope pointed out on Friday, Williams’ progress stalled.
There is good news for Big Blue Nation, though. According to Pope, the Wildcats are confident that Williams will be able to play this season.
“The healing stalled a little bit. When he was kind of in the 90% healed, it started to regress,” Pope said. “He went and had another surgery. He’s progressing great right now, and we have high, high, high confidence that we’ll have him for the season.”

Williams arrived at Kentucky last season after a strong freshman year at Tulane. The 6-foot-7 forward is a strong shooter when healthy (41% at Tulane and 36% at Kentucky), and he’ll serve as an important depth piece for Kentucky in 2026 assuming Pope’s timetable holds firm. Prior to his injury, Williams’ best game last season came against Bellarmine — a 26-point outing on 8-10 shooting from distance.
Williams is one of 5 returners for the Wildcats this season, joining Malachi Moreno, Reece Potter, Braydon Hawthorne and Trent Noah.
