Thank you!The LAMTTO wireless adapter adds seamless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in streaming features to compatible vehicles, but software support could determine its long-term value.
Founded in 2014, LAMTTO is a company focused on making modern in-car technology more accessible without requiring drivers to replace their factory infotainment systems. The brand specializes in products like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto adapters, AI-powered multimedia boxes, portable touchscreen displays, and dash cams designed to add smarter connectivity, entertainment, and safety features to older vehicles. Rather than replacing an entire head unit, LAMTTO’s products are built to provide simple plug-and-play upgrades that bring features like wireless smartphone integration, video streaming, navigation, and voice control to a wide range of vehicles.
Unboxing and Setup
Inside the box, you will find a user manual, a USB-A to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and the unit itself. The adapter is constructed from plastic with a metal frame, giving it a premium feel despite its compact size. It feels very high quality in the hand and doesn’t come across as cheap like some competing adapters.
As soon as I plugged the unit into my 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, the CarPlay prompt appeared almost immediately. Since this unit is Android-based, it did take about a minute to fully boot up before everything was ready to use. Once it finished booting, I was prompted to connect to WiFi. I opted to use my phone’s hotspot, which only took a few seconds to set up.
It is important to note that you do not need a WiFi connection to use wireless Apple CarPlay. The WiFi connection is only required for the built-in Android apps such as YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, and other streaming services. After tapping the CarPlay icon, I was quickly able to pair my iPhone, and within moments I had wireless CarPlay up and running without any issues.
Overall Use
After getting everything set up, I started testing the built-in apps and quickly ran into one of the biggest drawbacks of this device. While it includes an app store, it is managed entirely by LAMTTO rather than using the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, the Google Play Store appears to be hidden behind a software lock, leaving you completely dependent on LAMTTO’s app store for app updates.
This became an issue almost immediately with Amazon Prime Video. The app would open only to display a message saying that it required an update. When selecting the update option, it attempted to redirect to the Google Play Store, but the Play Store would not stay open and could not be accessed. Since there was no updated version available through LAMTTO’s app store, I was unable to use Amazon Prime Video at all.
I reached out to LAMTTO regarding the issue, and they suggested updating the device’s firmware. Unfortunately, even after attempting the firmware update which failed, the problem remained. Hopefully this is something that can be addressed in a future software update because streaming apps are one of the major selling points of this device.
That said, it is worth mentioning that outside of the Amazon Prime Video issue, the device performed very well. Wireless Apple CarPlay worked flawlessly throughout my testing. It connected quickly every time I started my vehicle and remained stable without any random disconnects. I was also able to stream content from YouTube, Disney+, and Netflix without any issues, and playback was smooth on each app.
My biggest concern is not how the device performs today because overall it performs very well. Instead, my concern is the long-term software support. Since the built-in apps rely entirely on LAMTTO’s managed app store rather than the Google Play Store, I question how long those apps will continue receiving updates. Streaming services are constantly changing, and if updates stop being provided, compatibility with apps like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, and others could eventually become an issue. Hopefully LAMTTO continues supporting the platform because, aside from that concern, the wireless CarPlay experience and the multimedia features were excellent during my testing.
Conclusion
Overall, I came away somewhat impressed with the LAMTTO 3-in-1 Wireless CarPlay Android Auto Adapter. If your primary goal is adding wireless Apple CarPlay to a vehicle that only supports wired CarPlay, this device does an excellent job. The connection was fast, stable, and reliable throughout my testing, and the hardware itself feels well built and premium.
The built-in Android apps are also a nice bonus, and during my testing I had no issues streaming content from YouTube, Disney+, or Netflix. My only real concern is the long-term software support. Since the device relies on LAMTTO’s own app store rather than the Google Play Store, there is no guarantee that the apps will continue receiving updates as streaming services evolve. I also ran into an issue with Amazon Prime Video that prevented it from working because an updated version of the app was unavailable.
Despite those concerns, the LAMTTO adapter delivers an excellent wireless CarPlay experience, and that alone makes it easy to recommend. However, if your only goal is to add wireless Apple CarPlay to your vehicle, there are less expensive adapters available that will accomplish that for a lower price. The extra cost of this device is really for the built-in Android operating system and streaming capabilities. As long as LAMTTO continues supporting those apps with regular updates, the added functionality makes this a compelling option for anyone who wants more than just wireless CarPlay.
