How are we feeling today, Bulls fans?
After last night’s win over the shorthanded Washington Wizards, we may have seen the last of Caleb Wilson this Summer League. At least, I would assume so, but he also seems like the type of guy who would want to play all five games.
Still, it’s Summer League. The wins and losses don’t really matter, but there were plenty of positives and negatives to take away from last night. Nothing that completely changes our existing opinions, but enough to give us a few things to think about.
Plus, there’s another development in the Skylar Diggins–Chicago Sky drama.
Let’s talk Bulls (and Sky) basketball.
Skylar Diggins Last night, the Chicago Bulls won their first Summer League game, defeating the shorthanded Washington Wizards 99-87. And while it is just Summer League basketball, I think it’s hard to ignore what we’ve seen through Chicago’s first three games. For starters, I think we’ve seen all we need to see from Caleb Wilson. Yes, his first game did most of the heavy lifting, but on a team where he was clearly the No. 1 option, he showcased plenty of star-like tendencies. Over three games, Wilson averaged 24 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 48 percent from behind the arc. He delivered several highlight-reel plays on both ends of the floor, always found a way to score, even on off nights, and never looked afraid of carrying the load when his team needed him. That is more than enough of a sample size to feel confident that Caleb Wilson was the right player at No. 4. Now, the hope is that he continues on that trajectory and eventually develops into a superstar for the Bulls. We've got more Caleb Wilson highlights ? t.co/6iLjDSysyb pic.twitter.com/kMApfgguOw
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) July 15, 2026 In last night’s game, we saw Bulls two-way player Jaylin Sellers score a team-high 24 points on 58 percent shooting from the field, while Donovan Atwell added 19 points after going 6-of-12 from behind the arc. Both have looked like players who could, at the very least, help the regular-season Chicago Bulls with their shooting when the time comes. And I have a feeling the Bulls could utilize them to the full extent of their two-way contracts if Chicago deals with any injuries.Donovan Atwell is a flamethrower ?Atwell vs. WAS: 19 PTS (6-for-12 from downtown) pic.twitter.com/KYzVaSHkPO
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) July 15, 2026 One thing we still didn’t see last night, however, was a good game from the No. 14 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Noa Essengue, or the No. 15 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Dailyn Swain. Again, it is only Summer League. At least we saw a few small flashes from Noa off the bench, but Swain has now gone without a made field goal in each of his last two games, shooting 0-of-16 during that stretch. It still looks like he is overthinking his decisions, with a sprinkle of bad luck mixed in for the birthday boy, who turned 21 today. Happy birthday, Dailyn, by the way! As unconventional as this might sound, I would like to see Dailyn Swain and Noa Essengue play in the Bulls’ final two Summer League games in Vegas. Let them get some reps without Caleb Wilson and try to play their way out of these slumps in games where the results don’t really matter. If not, we could see both players spending a lot of time with the Windy City Bulls, where they would get those reps instead, which isn’t necessarily something they want as players or something we hoped to see as fans. Speaking of the final two games of Summer League basketball, the Bulls are set to play another back-to-back, taking on the Los Angeles Lakers on July 16 and, as just announced by the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 17. Both games come with their own fun little storylines. First up, we’ll get Dailyn Swain vs. Cameron Carr, the two players draft analysts constantly debated when discussing who Chicago should select with the No. 15 pick. Then there’s Summer League scoring leader Meleek Thomas and the Cavaliers. Thomas is someone I genuinely would have loved to see the Bulls take in the second round if they hadn’t sold away their picks. We take on the Cavs in our fifth & final NBA Summer League game on Friday. ⏰: 6PM CT / 4PM PT?: Thomas & Mack Center?: ESPN t.co/TSzu6dLexR
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) July 15, 2026 And finally, an update on the Skylar Diggins–Chicago Sky drama. If you haven’t been keeping up, here’s the quick rundown. Skylar was one of Chicago’s marquee signings this offseason, but with the team struggling, the Sky asked her to come off the bench. Skylar hadn’t come off the bench in over a decade, and the decision made it feel like she was being scapegoated for the team’s struggles. Plus, there had already been some clear friction between head coach Tyler Marsh and Skylar leading up to the decision. When she found out she was being moved to the bench, she made her feelings public on social media. However, instead of coming off the bench, Skylar sat out the game with a knee injury and missed the next three games as well. The latest update is that Marsh announced yesterday that Skylar Diggins is now out with no timetable for a return. Obviously, the cited reason is a “knee injury,” but I think we all know the reality of the situation. At this point, I doubt this gets resolved unless Skylar is traded or Marsh gets the boot.BULLS ON BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
