Odisha Police Issues Comprehensive Traffic Advisory for Rath Yatra 2026

Puri: Ahead of the world-famous Rath Yatra 2026, the Odisha Police has unveiled an extensive traffic management plan aimed at ensuring the smooth movement of lakhs of devotees expected to throng the holy city during the annual festival.

The Traffic Control Centre, Puri, has announced a comprehensive advisory featuring 30 designated parking locations, AI-based traffic monitoring, drone surveillance, 244 CCTV cameras, LED information systems, and a 24-hour no-vehicle zone around the Grand Road to facilitate hassle-free pilgrimage.

According to the advisory, 22 parking areas have been earmarked for four-wheelers with a combined capacity of 7,730 vehicles, while four two-wheeler parking zones can accommodate 15,000 motorcycles and scooters. Additionally, four dedicated bus parking areas have been set up with space for 750 buses.

To handle the anticipated surge in visitors, the police have added six new parking locations—Bhudan, Central School, Central School Back Side, Taj, Samanga, and Shree Setu—increasing overall parking capacity by 2,100 vehicles compared to the 2025 arrangements.

Separate parking facilities have been designated for pass holders at JBPC, Yatrika, Loknath, and Nail Field, while 18 parking zones have been identified for vehicles without passes. A contingency parking arrangement has also been made along Jail Road.

The non-pass holder parking locations include Samanga, Bhudan, ITI College, Helipad, Horticulture Parking, OLA Guest House, Talabania Fish Market, Indoor Stadium, Sterling Chhak, Taj Hotel area, Saradhabali, Swosti-to-Sterling Road, and other designated sites across the town.

To strengthen traffic regulation, Odisha Police will employ AI-assisted vehicle counting alongside manual monitoring. Three drones will provide aerial surveillance at key entry points, while 244 CCTV cameras will keep round-the-clock watch on traffic movement.

Authorities have also installed 1,645 traffic signages, including 595 permanent and 1,050 temporary signboards, to guide motorists. Several LED display boards have been placed along highways to provide real-time traffic updates. In addition, two mobile LED display units will operate along the Uttara–Lingipur corridor and in Bhubaneswar, informing commuters about congestion levels and alternate routes, particularly on the Malatipatpur route, helping pilgrims plan their journey more efficiently.
