Jacob Misiorowski To Resume Throwing, Won’t Start This Week

Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski was scratched from his start on Sunday due to fatigue. The All-Star is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Misiorowski will not pitch in Milwaukee’s three-game series against Miami later this week.

The final game of the weekend series between the Brewers and Pirates was initially set to pit Misiorowski against reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes. Instead, Milwaukee gave the ball to lefty Robert Gasser, who was pummeled for seven earned runs in three innings. Pittsburgh swept the division-leading Brewers with a blowout win on Sunday.

Misiorowski earned his second straight All-Star selection, but he obviously won’t suit up for the NL tomorrow. The recent update suggests he isn’t far off from a return. If Milwaukee bumps him to the end of the rotation, he’d be lined up to start next Tuesday against the Mets. The big righty downplayed the injury concerns over the weekend.

“Fatigue would be the best word,” Misiorowski told reporters, relayed by Hogg. “Nothing crazy. Just didn’t bounce back. A little quick on the days off between but nothing crazy.”

Misiorowski tossed seven innings of two-run ball against the Cardinals on Tuesday. It was just his third start of the season on normal rest. He threw 103 pitches, his second-most of the campaign. The Brewers had already been considering skipping Sunday’s outing and bumping Misiorowski to the end of the rotation in an effort to manage his workload, notes Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. The young righty has already thrown 111 innings this year, putting him less than 20 frames away from his career high as a pro. Misiorowski threw 129 1/3 innings between Triple-A and the majors last season.

The 24-year-old Misiorowski has followed up his promising rookie season with a Cy Young-caliber first half. He has a microscopic 1.62 ERA across 18 starts. Misiorowski has piled up 167 strikeouts, which is nearly 20 more than the next-closest pitcher (Dylan Cease at 148). The righty has somehow increased the velocity on his blistering fastball. After sitting at 99.3 mph with the four-seamer last year, Misiorowski is up to 100.5 mph in 2026. He’s also added a 96 mph cutter to go with his curveball and slider. The cutter has become another weapon against lefties, largely replacing Misiorowski’s seldom-used changeup.

Milwaukee can ill-afford to deal with another significant injury in the rotation. The club recently moved veteran righty Brandon Woodruff to the 60-day IL with shoulder inflammation. Breakout lefty Kyle Harrison hit the 15-day IL with forearm tightness last week. Quinn Priester is done for the season following thoracic outlet surgery. The Brewers have had decent contributions from offseason trade acquisitions Brandon Sproat and Shane Drohan. Logan Henderson has pitched well when available, but he missed significant time with a back injury. Starting pitching depth will likely be a focus for Milwaukee heading into the trade deadline.
