2027 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Qualifying Standards Released

By Sean Griffin on SwimSwam

The NCAA has released the Division III Swimming and Diving qualifying standards for the 2027 Championships.

The cutlines are determined based on various 3-year averages.

The A-cuts are based on the 3-year average of the top finisher’s time from finals. The B-cuts are calculated by the 3-year average of the 32nd place time from the meet entry system, unless such calculation is slower. The relay cuts are calculated by the 3-year average of the 20th place time for the men and 24th for the women from the meet entry system, unless such calculation is slower.

    Qualifying Times

On the men’s side, most individual ‘A’ cuts got a bit faster when compared to last year. The 1650 free saw the biggest change, dropping nearly four seconds from 15:17.12 to 15:13.27. The 50, 100, and 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 and 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM cuts all got faster as well.

Four events went the other way: the 500 free, 100 and 200 backstroke, and 200 breaststroke ‘A’ cuts all got slightly slower.

All five men’s relays got faster across the board, led by the 800 free relay, which dropped over a second, from 6:39.86 to 6:38.55.

On the women’s side, the results were slightly more balanced in terms of getting faster versus slower. The 1650 free cut is now two seconds slower, going from 16:27.43 to 16:29.85, and the 400 IM slowed by over a second and a half, from 4:14.21 to 4:15.84. The 100 and 200 backstroke and 100 and 200 breaststroke cuts also got slower.

Meanwhile, the 50, 100, 200, and 500 free, along with the 100 and 200 fly and 200 IM, all got faster for the women.

The women’s relays were mostly faster as well, though the 400 free relay held at the exact same standard, 3:29.09, as last season.

First, the top 20 women and top 16 men in each individual event are selected. After that, members of the top 20 women’s and top 16 men’s relays receive invites. If the maximum invite of 319 women and 260 men is not yet met, swimmers are added one by one in individual events until the invite capacity is reached. There are 24 men’s and 29 women’s diving spots reserved out of the total invites from their respective meets. Invite selection for divers takes place according to regional placements

The meet will take place from March 17-20, 2027 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
