Welsh singer, Bonnie Tyler, has died at the age of 75 following an unexpected illness, according to a statement on her website.
The singer, know for hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, died in a Portugal hospital last night, a statement confirmed.
The statement said: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.
“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy.”
Tyler was rushed to a hospital in Faro, Portugal, for emergency intestinal surgery in May. Doctors placed her in an induced coma to aid her recovery.
In an update last month, a spokesperson said she was out of a coma but remained very unwell in intensive care. The spokesperson said her condition was improving and doctors were “confident” she would recover – although progress was “slow.”
Shows for Tyler’s summer tour were cancelled or postponed, but the singer said she hoped the shows she had scheduled for later in the year could go ahead.
