Ravi Bishnoi’s no-ball struggle decoded: ‘Receptive to feedback, unable to implement changes’

India cricket team bowler Ravi Bishnoi is facing severe scrutiny after bowling three no-balls in the ENG vs IND 2nd T20I which eventually cost the visitors the game. The spinner returned to the T20I setup for the first time in 6 months in the series against England, after a sub-par IPL 2026 season. An expensive spell that saw him concede 60 runs in four overs, coupled with the 29-run over in the 17th single-handedly helped England snatch victory from the hands of India.

Amid severe criticism, Bishnoi’s childhood coach has spilled the beans on what is preventing the spinner from overcoming the no-ball obstacle. It has largely to do with his bowling action, the run-up and the release. While he was dropped for the ENG vs IND 3rd T20I after his miserable performance, Ravi will have to race against time to fix the problem. But it won’t be an easy task.

What is preventing Ravi Bishnoi from making course correction?

Speaking to the Times of India, Ravi Bishnoi’s childhood coach Shahrukh Khan revealed that the bowler’s run-up had changed, and his bowling arm is coming through much straighter at release, pointing out that it was very different from his previous action. The spinner’s coach, however, flagged that Bishnoi’s failure to implement the changes consistently was one of the major obstacles.

“His run-up has changed slightly and his bowling arm is coming through much straighter at release, which is very different from his previous action. He is receptive to feedback, but unable to implement changes consistently. In nets, he often bowls with his old action, but in matches he reverts to muscle memory. That has become a major obstacle,” Ravi Bishnoi’s coach explained.

In the ENG vs IND 2nd T20I, Bishnoi was expensive right from his first over. He was first brought in to bowl in the 4th over where he bowled one no-ball and conceded 11 runs. His 2nd over, which happened to be the final one before the end of the powerplay, was his least expensive (8 runs including one wide and four each). The spinner conceded 12 runs in his third over but had reserved his worst for the last.

In the final over of his spell (the 17th over), Bishnoi conceded a whooping 29 runs off 8 deliveries, single-handedly putting England in the driver’s seat. He bowled two no-balls, conceded three sixes, two doubles and a four, allowing Bethell to race past his half-century.

Prior to that game, Ravi Bishnoi last played a T20I for India way back in January. He has picked just 3 wickets in 2 innings this year. In IPL 2026, the spinner featured in just 9 out of 16 matches played by RR, in which he managed to bag 11 scalps.
