The BBC has unveiled a new look at upcoming cosy crime drama The Hairdresser Mysteries, which stars Bridget Jones favourite Sally Phillips as an unlikely detective.
In the six-part series, created by playwright and screenwriter Jim Cartwright (Road, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice), Phillips plays Lily Petal, a hairdresser who leaves city life behind to open a salon in a picturesque village, only to find herself drawn into a string of local mysteries.
"Soon she becomes the hub of her new village's secrets and revelations," reads the synopsis. Using her "own brand of uncannily developed hairdressing intuition, empathy and understanding", Lily begins piecing together clues to solve the village's mysteries.
Starring alongside Phillips is former Coronation Street actor Charlotte Jordan as Clary Coombs, a bright and analytical salon assistant, and the Holmes to her Watson.
You can watch them in action on BBC iPlayer from 6am on Friday 17 July, and again on BBC One from 2pm that same day.
The rest of the cast includes Ben Castle-Gibb (You) as eager young police officer PC Adam Watson, who takes a shine to Clary; Sunetra Sarker (Ackley Bridge) as local gossip Wincey Evans; Clive Rowe (The Addams Family UK Tour) as flamboyant charity shop manager Lonnie; and Guy Henry (Holby City) as eccentric antiques dealer Race Runard.
Guest stars will also feature throughout the series, including Wendi Peters (Coronation Street, Doctors) as Gloria Crudd, a newcomer hoping to make a fresh start with a village ice cream parlour before her past catches up with her.
The Hairdresser Mysteries premieres on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Friday 17 July.
