The legendary Paul McCartney admits there’s one artist he dreams of working with, but he’s too afraid to ask him.
The English musician and songwriter has worked with some of the most recognizable voices in music, including Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, and Rihanna.
The 84-year-old admitted that he is too shy to call one musician during a Tuesday, Oct. 13 appearance on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast.
“I get asked [who I want to collaborate with] and I always think Bob Dylan. But I’m too nervous to ring him up,” the former Beatles band member said. “‘Bob? It’s Paul.’”
Poehler joked she couldn’t imagine Dylan answering his phone. McCartney joined in, saying the singer-songwriter was probably “in some bush, in a sleeping bag, maybe.”
McCartney spoke about his relationship with Dylan on BBC Radio 2 earlier this year. He shared that the duo met in the 1960s and that he doesn’t know him very well.
“I’m a little bit nervous to approach him. Some people it’s easy, you sort of think, we could chat easily,” the “Band on the Run” singer said.
He added that he spoke to Dylan in 2016 at the music festival Desert Trip in Indio, Calif after Dylan asked someone on his team to say hello.
“I came in to see him and it was like, ‘Wow.’ It was just him and me in this massive, big tent backstage and he was very complimentary,” McCartney said. “It was funny ‘cause… A little bit embarrassing, he said, ‘You’re a star.’ I thought, ‘What do you say to that?’ ‘Well, thank you Bob. I love what you do.’… Anyway, he’s great. I love his music, I love his songs.”
