A Fourth of July holiday run was canceled early Saturday morning as a police investigation unfolded in the suburban park where it was set to take place.
The Glen Ellyn Police Department issued an alert just before 6:30 a.m. saying Lake Ellyn Park was closed for an investigation.
“There is no active safety threat. There will be an increased police presence, please avoid the area,” the department wrote.
As a result, the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Freedom 4 Run was canceled.
Further details on what sparked the investigation weren’t immediately released.
