2026 DUTCH EUROPEAN SWIMMING TRIALS

July 2nd – July 5th Tongelreep National Swimming Centre, Eindhoven, the Netherlands LCM (50m) SwimSwam Preview Meet Central Entry List Day 1 Recap Live Results Livestream

Day two of the 2026 Dutch European Swimming Trials was void of records, but swift swims were still apparent as athletes are vying for slots on the nation’s roster for this year’s European Championships.

Last night’s record-breaking swimmer Marrit Steenbergen topped another podium, with the 26-year-old producing a time of 27.40 to win the women’s 50m backstroke.

Steenbergen held off Tessa Giele, who turned in a mark of 27.67, while Maaike de Waard clinched the bronze in 27.74.

All three women cleared the selection standard of 28.22 needed to qualify in the event for Paris and Steenbergen’s time registered a new personal best. Her former PB rested at the 27.62 notched at March’s Giant Open.

Her gold is added to her 100m back victory from night one, where she ripped a lifetime best and Dutch national record of 58.33 as a follow-up to her monster 51.68 World Record in the 100m free at the Sette Colli Trophy.

Olympic medalist Tes Schouten also made her presence known, qualifying for the European Championships in her bread-and-butter 100m breaststroke event.

25-year-old Schouten produced a winning effort of 1:06.37 as the sole swimmer to delve under the 1:07 barrier as well as under the 1:06.87 QT.

Florine Gaspard of Belgium earned the silver this evening in 1:07.68, with Rafaela Mulders rounding out the podium in 1:09.13.

Schouten’s time is solid coming off of last year, when she missed the championships season due to injury.

At the 2024 Olympic Games, Schouten finished 10th in this event, hitting a time of 1:06.56, so she was just off that outing with her performance here. There in Paris, Schouten grabbed the 200m breast bronze.

Finally, the women’s 200m free saw Imani de Jong put up a time of 1:57.79 to qualify for Euros in a new personal best to boot.

Entering this competition, de Jong’s career-swiftest 2free performance checked in at the 1:58.59 put up just this past May at the Barcelona stop of the Mare Nostrum Tour.

Therefore, the 24-year-old hacked off major time to get under the 1:58 barrier for the first time in her career.

    Additional Notes

The men’s 200m free saw Merlin Belmon get to the wall first in 1:48.20, unfortunately, well off the 1:46.70 QT. Noah Verreth was the top men’s 100m backstroke, hitting 54.14 as the victor. That was within striking distance of the 53.94 QT needed for Paris. Thomas Jansen produced a result of 2:00.65 to take the men’s 200m IM.
