2026 DUTCH EUROPEAN SWIMMING TRIALS
July 2nd – July 5th Tongelreep National Swimming Centre, Eindhoven, the Netherlands LCM (50m) SwimSwam Preview Meet Central Entry List Live Results LivestreamDay one of the 2026 Dutch European Swimming Trials brought the heat, with a trio of national records biting the dust to kick off the four-day domestic affair.
Swimmers are vying for slots on the Dutch roster for this year’s European Championships, with swimmers having to clear the minimum time standards outlined by the Royal Dutch Swimming Federation (KNZB) in the selection procedures included within our preview linked above.
The three records came at the hands of two men and one woman, with Sean Niewold putting up a new NR in the 50m fly, Koen de Groot getting it done in the men’s 50m breast and newly-minted 100m freestyle World Record holder Marrit Steenbergen establishing a new national mark in the 100m backstroke.
Sean Niewold Clocks 22.69 Dutch Record in Men’s 50 Fly De Groot Takes Down Own Dutch Record in Men’s 50 Breaststroke World Record Holder Steenbergen Takes Toussaint’s 100 Back Dutch Record Down to 58.33Niewold, de Groot and Steenbergen all qualified in their respective events for this year’s European Championships, but there were others who also made the grade worth noting.
Tessa Giele made the cut in the women’s 50m butterfly, getting to the wall first in a time of 25.93.
She wasn’t alone, however, as Kim Busch touched simultaneously in 25.93, with both women clearing the 26.23 QT needed for Paris.
Bronze medalist in the race, Jinth Engelse, also qualified, with her mark of 26.36 dipping under the QT for under-23-year-olds of 26.62.
After Steenbergen, Maaike de Waard clinched a European Championshps bid in the women’s 100m back, capturing silver in 59.40.
