ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Our Yellow Alert continues for one more day on Friday. We’ll have one more day of temperatures in the 90s and dew points in the 70s, though slightly less intense than recent days. Heat index values will hold in the 95-105° range for much of the area during the afternoon and early evening.
While the heat may be slightly less intense on Friday, our storm chances will be going up. Our ridge will begin to break down, which will tend to allow the storm track to drop into our region. There will still be plenty of storm fuel, so anything that does get going will have the chance of becoming strong to severe with strong winds and some hail. The timing of these storms looks to be during the later afternoon and evening hours, but if you have outdoor plans, check back in for updates on the timing.
A cold front will pass through on Saturday, which will spark some more showers and a few storms. The intensity of the storms will come down to the timing of the front. An earlier arrival will limit our instability and strong storm threat. An afternoon arrival would trigger some stronger storms. At this point, plan on some rain and thunder, and we’ll monitor and update any stronger storm threat. If things work out just right, we should see clearing for July 4th fireworks later on.
