Kentucky gets commitment from in-state 4-star WR

Kentucky scored the ultimate double whammy on Friday night, getting a commitment from 4-star wide receiver Tyler Fryman, who announced earlier in the week that he was decommitting from Bluegrass State rival Louisville.

So, the Cardinals’ loss is now the Wildcats’ gain, and it’s another step for Kentucky football in trying to build a foundation under first-year head coach Will Stein. Fryman told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Friday of his intentions to head to Lexington after he backed out of his commitment at Louisville.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder out of Fort Mitchell, Ky., will be help fortify the attack that the offensive guru Stein is trying to build at Kentucky. The Wildcats will have to wait until 2027 to start reaping the benefits from Fryman, who not only chose UK over hated Louisville but also picked Kentucky over powerhouse Notre Dame as well as Cincinnati.

Fryman originally committed to the Louisville baseball program way back in 8th grade, before he got to high school and before he received an offer from the Louisville football program in June of 2025.

But things changed for Fryman after he recently took an official visit to Lexington. Fryman announced he was decommitting from Louisville, and now he’s completed the shocking turn of events by committing to Louisville’s bitter in-state rival.

Fryman has publicly expressed that he would like to play both football and baseball in college, so Kentucky could be getting more than just a football player with Fryman’s arrival in Lexington in 2027.

But for now, Fryman has decided that he wants to play football for the Wildcats and for Stein, who took the Kentucky head coaching job after running the high-powered offense at Oregon. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Fryman is the 210th-ranked overall prospect in the Class of 2027. But he’s the 30th-ranked wide receiver in the class and the third-ranked player from the state of Kentucky, so this is a huge get for Stein.

Kentucky now has 25 commits in its 2027 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 21st in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Fryman is coming off a big junior season at Beechwood High School in Fort Mitchell, catching 45 passes for 1,023 yards and 18 touchdowns last fall. He also showed he could hurt defenses with his legs, rushing for 277 yards and 3 more TDs.

Now, Kentucky has gotten its hands on Fryman and now Louisville has been left in the dust for Fryman’s services, whether it’s for just football or also for baseball.

Kentucky will have Fryman in the fold in 2027, but in 2026 the Wildcats will be trying to build a foundation under a new coaching regime. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the top teams in the running to win it all in the SEC this fall:
