Elgin police warned residents to avoid the downtown area of the northwest Chicago suburb amid a “large police presence.”
In an alert around 11:30 a.m., the department said there was a heavy police presence in the downtown region and asked people to avoid the surrounding location.
“We will provide updates once the situation has been resolved. Thank you for your patience,” the alert stated.
Details surrounding what sparked the heavy presence weren’t immediately released.
Witnesses reported emergency crews searching the Fox River in the area. Footage showed crews on the water near the Grand Victoria Casino.
If confirmed, it would mark the second water incident reported in the area this week.
Over the weekend, the body of missing 16-year-old Destiny Neal, of Elgin, was found in the water north of the Kimball Street Bridge.
