Paramedic and football coach among men accused of plotting to abuse woman ‘drugged by husband’

A former paramedic, a children’s football coach and a taxi driver are among 13 men due to stand trial accused of being part of a conspiracy to drug and sexually assault a woman while she was unconscious, having allegedly been sedated by her husband.

The alleged victim is entitled to lifetime anonymity. Her husband, from the Stockport area of Greater Manchester, can also not be identified in order to protect her anonymity.

He was first arrested in October 2025 and has now been charged with carrying out 48 offences, including 16 charges of rape. He has since pleaded guilty at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court to 12 of those offences.

Between 2004 and 2023, the alleged offences were carried out alone and were recorded on video footage, prosecutors say.

Between 2023 and 2025, prosecutors allege the man then began inviting other men to abuse his wife while she was incapacitated with either alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two.

In total, 14 men have now been charged with serious sexual offences and thirteen are due to stand trial at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court starting on 1 September this year.

Keith Fotheringham, a 59-year-old who worked as a technician at the University of Dundee, has pleaded guilty to all offences.

All have links to the Greater Manchester area.

Jonathan Kirk, 43, of Stockport, who denies rape, is a former senior paramedic who served at least 14 years with North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Taxi driver Philip Wild has pleaded not guilty to attempted rape

An archive newspaper story shows he was once invited to meet Prince Harry when he visited Greater Manchester in the aftermath of rioting in 2011.

A spokesperson for NWAS said: “The individual is no longer employed by NWAS. As this matter is subject to active court proceedings, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further at this time.”

Among the other men who have pleaded not guilty to rape was Graham Brougham, 73, of Northwich, Cheshire, who worked as a sound engineer for “Nearly Dan”, a tribute act for the band Steely Dan.

A spokesperson for the band declined to comment, saying Brougham finished working with the band last year.

Alan Keelan, who has worked as a youth football coach, is also among those charged

Philip Wild, 58, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, is a taxi driver. He denies attempted rape and sexual assault charges. Alan Keelan, 42, a credit controller who has volunteered as a children’s football coach, denies rape and conspiracy to rape.

Karl Lindsay, 55, David Graves, 59, and Daniel Rayner, 42, are all alleged to have been part of a conspiracy with the woman’s husband for her to be raped, including by supplying a substance that would render her incapacitated. They deny all the offences against them.

Lindsay, aged 55, is from Taunton in Somerset and is the former chief executive of Taunton football club.
