Severe storms that sparked tornado warnings across parts of the Chicago area Wednesday evening left many suburbs cleaning up damage from downed trees and power lines, flooded roadways and more.
In northwest suburban Bartlett, where an EF-1 tornado already struck earlier this month, authorities reported “several downed trees and power lines” in its downtown area.
“We ask that you stay clear of the area if you can,” police wrote on social media.
Quarter-sized hail was reported nearby in Algonquin, McHenry and Lake in the Hills.
Trees were reported down in Elgin, Sleepy Hollow, East Dundee and more.
In Streamwood, some homes saw damage to roofs and siding. Some smaller trees in the area were also damaged.
Surveillance video shared with NBC Chicago captured the moment a large tree branch fell on a moving car in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood near 104th and Seely.
Video captured by an NBC Chicago photographer showed bits of the branch scattered around the street after it hit the car.
Dark clouds could also be seen swirling in the skies over nearby suburban Tinley Park during the storms.
Multiple severe weather and flash flood warnings were issued across the region as storms rolled through.
As of early Thursday morning, ComEd reported just under 3,000 customers without power, nearly all of which were reported in northwest suburbs like Bartlett, Elgin, Carpentersville and more.
