During a recent conversation with rock bandSwitchfoot, Nick, 33, shared a little-known story about how the Jonas Brothers first came together.

At the time, Nick was pursuing a solo career and recording music with Columbia Records. But everything changed when he heard his older brothers, Kevin and Joe Jonas, singing together for the first time.
"One of the first reasons this band formed is because I heard Kevin and Joe playing together for the first time singing "24" from your album Beautiful Letdown," Nick recalled on the Hey Jonas! podcast.

Nick said the brothers sounded "really good" together, and it wasn't long before they started writing and recording music as a trio. Their father eventually informed the record label that Nick was no longer just a solo artist—he was now part of a band with his brothers.
As fate would have it, the label handed them a copy of Switchfoot's breakthrough 2003 album The Beautiful Letdown.
The brothers quickly became obsessed.
"We would blast it for months," Nick said.
Looking back, he credited the album and Switchfoot's sound as a major influence during the earliest days of the Jonas Brothers.
"It's a huge part of our origin story as a band, and we just want to say thank you for that," he told the group.
For fans who associate the Jonas Brothers with polished pop hits and arena tours, the revelation offers an unexpected glimpse into their musical roots.
Switchfoot, known for hits like "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move," built a devoted following in the early 2000s thanks to its blend of alternative rock and thoughtful songwriting. Long before inspiring future pop stars, however, the band's own beginnings were far more humble.
Members of Switchfoot have previously shared that they played in a Led Zeppelin cover band while in high school before eventually developing the sound that would make them famous.
More than two decades later, that journey has come full circle.
