Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources denied social media reports claiming that investment agreements had been signed for 108 gold and precious metals mines in northern Sudan as part of a strategic partnership.
In a statement released on Friday 19/6/2026, the ministry said the reports, attributed to Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and circulated on unofficial social media pages run from outside the country, are categorically false and groundless.
The minister made no statements to Egyptian Radio containing such information, the ministry added, noting that no official announcements or statements had been made by the ministry or any of its affiliated entities on that score.
The ministry stressed that all projects, agreements, and contracts related to petroleum and mining activities are announced through the ministry’s official channels and those of its affiliated authorities and companies to ensure accuracy and transparency.
It also emphasized that developing Egypt’s mining industry and increasing its GDP contribution is a key priority for the government, noting the sector is undergoing reforms aimed at creating a more attractive and competitive investment environment.
The ministry affirmed its right to take legal action against those responsible for spreading false information attributed to it or any of its officials.
