The Egyptian Healthcare Authority signed a cooperation agreement with Rosatom Construction Technologies (RTS), a subsidiary of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, to study and implement a project to establish a comprehensive nuclear medicine center in Egypt.
The agreement was signed by the Deputy Director General for Economic, Financial, and Investment Affairs at Rosatom Construction Technologies, David Makharashvili, and the Executive Director of the Egyptian Healthcare Authority, Amir al-Telwany.
The agreement affirms the commitment of both parties to cooperate in developing the project, which will enhance Egypt’s capabilities in the field of nuclear medicine and provide advanced medical services to patients.
Increasing access to advanced medical technologies, equipment, and medicines is a strategic priority for Rosatom, both within Russia and internationally.
The state-of-the-art nuclear medicine center is planned to include a radiopharmaceutical production facility equipped with a dedicated cyclotron, and a molecular imaging department with positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scanners, capable of performing up to 30,000 scans annually.
The center will also house a radioisotope therapy department with the capacity to treat up to 400 patients per year.
The establishment of this advanced medical facility is expected to enhance patients’ access to high-tech healthcare services and bolster Egypt’s position as a regional hub for medical tourism.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Fifth African Conference on Medicine and Pharmacy, hosted by Cairo.
Commenting on the agreement, the Director General of Rosatom Construction Technologies, Ilya Verghezaev, said that signing the agreement with Egypt represents a significant step in international cooperation in the healthcare sector.
He explained that the new center will not only introduce the latest nuclear medicine technologies to Egypt but will also give a strong boost to the development of this vital sector in the country.
Verghezaev added: “We are confident that this project will be a valuable addition to the healthcare system and will contribute to improving the quality of medical services and enhancing the health of citizens.”
He affirmed that Rosatom Construction Technologies will do everything possible to ensure the establishment of a nuclear medicine center in Egypt that meets the highest international standards and becomes a launchpad for the development of this vital field.
