Jenna Bush Hager had a very unexpected trip down memory lane.
This morning, on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Hager told Sheinelle Jones that she did "the weirdest thing" the night before, after visiting a town where she used to own a home.
On the way home, one of her daughters suggested they drive past their old house.
"Mila goes, 'Let's drive past our old house,'" Hager said. "And I said, 'Okay, let's do it.'"
Hager said they drove by the home, but the quick look turned into something else when someone inside saw them.
"Right when we got there, somebody in the window waved," she said.
Hager said she had to make a choice.
"So then you have to choose one of two options," she said. "You've got to pull over, or you're a creepy person."
She pulled over.
Hager said her daughters were not exactly thrilled with the decision at first.
"Mila and Poppy were hiding," she said. "They were like, 'What are you doing? Creeper. Don't stop.'"
The Family Was Invited Inside

The visit turned out to be much warmer than her daughters expected.
Hager said the family got out, met the people living there, and were invited inside.
"Did they let you in?" Jones asked.
"Yes," Hager said.
She said they walked through the house, which was being redone, and she started pointing out memories to her daughters.
"We walked through our old house that we lived in for a long time," Hager said.
The house had a special family connection. Hager said it was the home where she brought both Poppy and Hal home from the hospital.
"And we looked at it, and I was like, 'Girls, do you remember this? Do you remember?'" she said.
Jones understood why the moment meant so much.
She said she has also gone back to visit a former home in Wichita, where the view outside used to look very different.
"The place where we used to live across the street, it used to just be wheat," Jones said. "I used to stare out of the window, and it would just be, like, wheat for days, and now it's, like, a subdivision."
Hager said her mother had once gone by one of their old homes and found that it had been torn down.
"Oh, no," Jones said.
"I know, sad," Hager replied.

Hager Recommended Going Back to a Previous Residence
The visit may have started as a spontaneous detour, but Hager said she was glad she stopped.
She said the woman inside even offered her a glass of rosé.
Hager then recommended the experience to viewers if they ever get the chance.
"If you ever have the chance to go back to, like, where some of your fondest memories were made," she said.
There was one small problem.
Hager said her husband, Henry, was waiting for her at home after she told him she would be back in five minutes.
"Henry was like, 'Where are you? You said you were five minutes out," she said. Oops!
