The scheme will cover a site acquired by Yoo Capital in April 2023 on Regis Road, encompassing former industrial premises including the Holmes Road Depot and the Regis Road Recycling Centre. The masterplan is designed by architects SPPARC.
Plans for the Camden Film Quarter include eight purpose-built soundstages, to be operated by Oxygen Studios.
The campus is expected to provide more than 70,000ft² of workspace for creative companies and production support, as well as post-production and special effects facilities.
The development will also include specialist education hubs for the National Film and Television School and the London Screen Academy, providing training tailored to industry needs.
The housing element, developed in partnership with Places for People, will deliver 485 new homes, with around half designated as affordable.
Approximately 60% of these affordable homes are intended to be offered at either social rent or London Affordable Rent levels.
A proposed visitor attraction, community cinema, outdoor amphitheatre and improvements to walking and cycling routes are included in the wider vision for the development.
Yoo Capital estimates that the completed project will create 5,000 roles supported in the wider economy.
Despite concerns among some councillors regarding the height and scale of the tallest building, the development received a resolution to grant approval.
The project is expected to roll out in phases, to position Camden as a hub for London’s growing screen industry.
