Cincinnati is a city that is charming in its own special ways. It has good food and drink options, passionate sports fans, and some unique architecture. But because it doesn’t have a domed stadium, it won’t ever host a Super Bowl. The NFL Draft, however, could be a possibility.
After reporting that the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission had been chopping it up with the league about the 2029 NFL Draft, Bengals Vice President Katie Blackburn confirmed the city’s interest in playing host to one of the league’s biggest events.
“We’ve expressed interest, as have many other cities,” Blackburn said, via Pro Football Talk. “We are exploring it and seeing whether we can have an opportunity to do that. We would love it if we could. We would be excited about it. We’ll continue to work on it to see if it can happen.”

If the NFL Draft is indeed going to Ohio, it will have to wait for a few years. The 2027 NFL Draft will be held in Washington D.C., which will be quite the spectacle in our nation’s capital. And in 2028, it will head to Minnesota. Given how folks around the league feel about US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, that also figures to be a top-tier event. That leaves 2029 as the earliest Cincinnati can host the NFL Draft. Based on the attendance numbers from recent draft weekends, I imagine folks in Cincy will believe that it will be worth the wait.
On the one hand, I don’t feel as if Cincinnati is a destination for most football fans. But on the other hand, the NFL Draft would make it one as soon as it is announced. After hearing from Bears fans who attended the NFL Drafts in Green Bay and Pittsburgh, I have no doubt that Cincinnati can put on a show that draws similar rave reviews.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BEARS’ FIRST-ROUND PICK
With that being said, I wonder if Chicago (or the greater Chicagoland area) will ever play host to the NFL Draft again. Chicago was essentially the trial balloon for the traveling road show this event has become. In fact, it hosted a pair of NFL Drafts. Since then, we’ve seen Philadelphia, Arlington, Nashville, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Detroit, and Pittsburgh get a chance. I imagine that other cities with NFL teams are lining up to get in on the action, too. Heck, it wouldn’t surprise me if the NFL takes the draft across the pond one year.
When you consider how many different cities could make a pitch for the NFL Draft, I doubt Chicago will host it again. And if it does, it’ll probably be a while. Perhaps, by then, the Bears will have a stadium deal done with SOMEBODY.
