Shrek and Donkey are back together for another whirlwind adventure – or so it seems – in the teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Shrek 5.
The film, set to release on 30 June 2027, has finally unveiled some footage from the film and it pays homage to the hugely popular first film which was released in 2001.
Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) are set for a trip to Further, Further Away for more hijinks and adventure – and a dark version of Frozen's Olaf, too.
It looks like they aren't alone, with two of Shrek and Fiona's (Cameron Diaz) not-so-little boys joining them for the ride.
View oEmbed on the source websiteIn a touching moment for fans of the franchise, there are plenty of call-backs to the original when Shrek and Donkey previously headed out on their first adventure and the latter was predictably excitable.
There's also a tantalising snippet of Smash Mouth's All Star playing at the end of the clip, a song which became synonymous with the film series.
Little else is known about the plot of the film just yet, but we do know who'll star alongside the famous trio.
Zendaya will play Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Felicia, with Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo playing their sons Fergus and Farkle, respectively.
Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn are directing the film, both returning to the franchise for more fun; Vernon previously directed Shrek 2, while Dohrn worked on the second and third films as a writer, artist and a head of story on the fourth. Safe to say we're in capable hands.
You can also hear Vernon in the teaser trailer, as he's the voice of beloved fan-favourite Gingy (The Gingerbread Man).
Shrek 5 is released in cinemas on 30 June 2027.
