BYU has added three new names to the women’s swimming and diving 2026 recruiting class who will join the team this fall: Lauren Nielsen and Summer Thresher from California and Eliza Furqueron from Washington.
Heading to Utah from Chico, CA, Thresher used to swim for the Chico Aqua-Jets but has been competing unattached this season. Primarily specializing in the backstroke events, Thresher recently competed at the Pro Swim Series (LCM) stop in Sacramento in May, where she placed 7th in the 50 back (29.16), 10th in the 100 back (1:03.81) and 15th in the 200 back (2:22.25).
Thresher turned in a series of strong performances at the 2026 Roseville Sectionals (SCY) in February, clocking a new lifetime best in two events. She won the 100 back (53.84 – PB) and took 3rd in the 50 back (25.11) and 200 back (1:57.77 – PB), 13th in the 100 fly (56.69), 14th in the 50 fly (25.69) and 18th in the 50 free (24.22). Earlier in the season, she posted a personal best time in the 50 back (24.98) during a swim-off at the 2025 Winter Junior Championship – West.

Racing at the 2026 Roseville Sectionals in February, she placed 15th in the 100 fly (56.92- SB), 17th in the 200 IM (2:08.96), 23rd in the 400 IM (4:35.55), 25th in the 200 fly (2:10.65) and 32nd in the 100 back (1:00.46 – SB).
Most of Nielsen’s personal best times were posted during the 2024-2025 season. She turned in lifetime best performances in the 100 fly (56.06), 200 fly (2:07.98) and 200 IM (2:05.80) in May 2025, while her best time in the 400 IM (4:26.60) stands from November 2024.
Nielsen raced at the 2025 Futures Championship (LCM) in Sacramento last summer, logging personal best times in the 100 fly (1:03.68), 200 IM (2:24.17) and 400 IM (5:05.15).

At the IES Short Course Championships in February, she delivered a series of fast swims, logging lifetime bests in four events. She won the 50 back (26.99 – PB), 100 back (56.85 – SB) and 200 back (2:04.18 – SB) and took 2nd in the 50 fly (26.52 – PB) and 200 IM (2:08.44 – PB). She also placed 4th in the 100 fly in 58.94 after setting a best time of 58.55 during prelims.
More recently, Furqueron competed at the Boise Sectionals in March, where she continued to post personal best performances. She placed 3rd in the 100 back (57.05) and 200 back (2:02.96 – PB) and 8th in the 100 fly (59.09) and 200 IM (2:10.98). She also set a personal best time in the 50 free (24.75) and 100 free (53.20) as the leadoff on the 200 free and 400 free relays, respectively.

100 back – 56.81 200 back – 2:02.96 100 fly – 58.55 200 IM – 2:08.44A Division I program in the Big 12 Conference, BYU’s women’s team placed 8th out of ten teams at this past season’s conference championships. To earn a second swim at the 2026 Big 12 Conference Championships, it took times of 55.47/2:00.55 in the 100/200 back, 54.91/2:03.30 in the 100/200 fly and 2:03.25/4:25.17 in the 400 IM. Based on their top times thus far, Thresher would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 100 back and the ‘B’ final in the 200 back, while Furqueron and Nielsen would have been just outside the cutoffs for the ‘C’ final in their top events.
With five senior swimmers having graduated this spring, the Thresher, Nielsen and Furqueron will help fill the gaps left behind and strengthen BYU’s roster next season.
The three of them will join Chesney Bonner, Sydney Ho and Annabelle Martin in the pool in the fall.
