For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Junior Nationals qualifier Ashlyn Anderson has announced her verbal commitment to stay in-state and swim at Rice University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m beyond blessed to announce that I have verbally committed to continuing my academic and athletic career at Rice University!!! I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and everyone who has supported me along the way. I also want to thank Coach Seth, Coach Jessica, and Coach Guy for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. GO OWLS!!
A rising senior at Keller High School in Keller, Anderson has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming team since her freshman year. She also trains year-round with Lakeside Aquatic Club, where she primarily specializes in breaststroke.
Anderson is coming off a breakthrough 2025-26 short course season that saw her drop over nine seconds in the 200 breast, eight seconds in the 200 IM, and just under a second in the 100 breast. Competing at Winter Juniors – West for the first time in December, she placed 23rd in the 100 breast (1:02.56) and 46th in the 200 breast (2:18.30), in addition to time trialing a 2:07.06 in the 200 IM. All three were then-PBs, with the 100 breast and 200 IM remaining her current bests. She went on to clock a lifetime best of 2:17.70 in the 200 breast at Speedo Sectionals – Austin in early March.
On the high school scene, Anderson placed sixth in the 100 breast (1:02.77) at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Championships in February, marking her second consecutive year making the championship final after finishing eighth as a sophomore.
Outside the short course pool, Anderson qualified for and competed at Summer Junior Nationals in August, where she placed 28th in the 200 breast (2:35.39 – PB), 31st in the 50 breast (33.62), 38th in the 100 breast (1:12.59 – PB), and 142nd in the 50 fly (29.33 – PB).
Top SCY Times:
100 Breaststroke: 1:02.56 200 Breaststroke: 2:17.70 200 IM: 2:07.06A Division I Mid-Major program, the Rice women won the 2026 American Conference team title. Anderson’s current career bests would have qualified her for the ‘B’ finals, while she’s less than two seconds shy of the 2:05.32 needed to earn a second swim in the 200 IM, meaning she’s slated to make an immediate impact, with two full seasons of training still ahead before she lines up at her first conference meet.
Anderson joins Liliana Hineman, Sophia Krutiy, and Lily Yung in committing to Rice’s class of 2031 so far.
