An Illinois Department of Transportation worker was injured when their truck was hit while assisting a stranded motorist Sunday morning on the Dan Ryan.
According to Illinois State Police, the worker was assisting a stranded motorist near 37th Street in the express lanes of the southbound Dan Ryan at approximately 1:56 a.m., and had parked their truck behind the vehicle.
At that time, a driver operating a Kia sedan crashed into the back of the IDOT truck, which pushed that vehicle into the stranded vehicle.
The IDOT worker and the driver of the Kia were both transported to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Illinois State Police.
The express lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed for nearly five hours for clean-up and an investigation into the crash, and reopened just before 7 a.m., authorities said.
