Some Rod Stewart fans aren’t thrilled with the singer’s latest update.
Less than 24 hours after canceling a scheduled performance due to ongoing vocal issues, the 81-year-old rocker shared a video of himself aboard a private jet alongside his sons Allistair and Liam as they traveled to watch Scotland compete in the World Cup. quickly sparked a wave of reactions from fans, with some questioning the timing of the trip.
"Here we are flying off to Boston to see Scotland in the World Cup," he began the Instagram video, before reminiscing about all the countries he'd traveled to over the years in support of the tournament.
The timing, however, is raising some eyebrows. Yesterday, on June 12, Stewart announced that he would be unable to perform his concert in Chula Vista, California, that night after being diagnosed with an acute upper respiratory infection that resulted in laryngitis.
View this post on Instagram“He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctors and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection that has resulted in laryngitis, he is unable to take to the stage this evening,” a statement shared on his Instagram Story ahead of the show read.
Stewart later addressed fans himself. “Following treatment, I’m feeling much better, but my voice is not. I’m very disappointed and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I did everything I could to make the show happen tonight,” he wrote.

Still, some fans were frustrated with his newest update.
“I understand that shows sometimes have to be canceled, and if there was a legitimate reason, most fans would have accepted it. What’s hard to accept is seeing you apparently celebrating on a plane with friends less than 24 hours after thousands of people were sent home disappointed in San Diego,” one wrote in the comments of the video.
“This feels rather disingenuous, especially after your cancellation last night. Too ill to perform but okay to fly across the country for soccer? “ another said.
A third replied, “Now we know why you canceled your show an hour before!”
Other fans were quick to come to the rocker’s defense.
“Get a grip people. I know it’s disappointing and frustrating when someone cancels a show but that doesn’t mean their life, especially with their family, also stops,” one pointed out.
Another agreed, “There’s a difference between watching a game and performing for two hours. “
The cancellation marked Stewart’s third recent show disruption. Just weeks earlier, he was forced to postpone two Las Vegas residency performances while recovering from a sinus infection.
